More about Ocracoke surfspot

General: There have been just as many OBX surfers who've been skunked in Ocracoke than those who have scored. Only the locals know its true potential. Most frequenters have commented on the quickness of the waves, sometimes describing them as too racy to surf. They also whisper about unspeakable perfection in the summer, when freak S swells march in and just as quickly march off, away from the shoals and the starved Dare County beaches. Tides: Low to mid tide Size: Chest high-overhead Wind: Northwest Swell: S, SE Bottom: Sand Paddling: Not too bad. Spot Rating: Not worth the ferry ride if you are looking for good surf but if you find yourself there you can find decent surf when there are waves.

Any and all levels

Plenty of accesses and beach driving to find your own spot.

Storm dependent: tropical cyclones in the late summer and fall with frontal activity from late fall through winter into spring.

Crowd Factor: Not an issue at all. Local Vibe: Plenty of room to spread out so not bad.

No concerns.

Marine life, missing the ferry back.
