Ogunquit Beach surf guide

Ogunquit Beach is a popular surf spot located along the beautiful coast of Maine. It offers a sandy beach that attracts both local surfers and visitors looking to catch some waves. While it can get busy in the summer with beachgoers, there are still chances to find rideable peaks. The beach runs along a scenic area, making it a pretty place to spend a day when the swell is up.

This spot works well with swells coming from the NorthEast and SouthEast, and you can expect to catch rideable waves when the swell size is around 2 feet (about 0.6 meters). The waves primarily break over sand, creating both left and right beach breaks. High tide can slow things down on the outside bars, but it often picks up on the inside. Mid and low tides usually provide a better mix of outer and inner breaks, and you might also find some steeper reforms close to shore.

Access to Ogunquit Beach is free during the winter, making it a great spot for off-season surfers. The beach usually doesn't get overcrowded since strong rips can scatter surfers over a larger area. It's worth noting that in the summer, there’s a non-surfing area for swimmers, but as long as you steer clear of that zone, you shouldn’t have any issues with the lifeguards. Plus, the water tends to get cleaner the further you move from the rivermouth.
