Olendé is a surf spot located on a SW-facing stretch of coastline down to Congo. It's a fairly straight sandy shore with some lagoons that create sandspits. There’s potential here for some decent left-hand waves, but it’s not the most well-known destination. The spot has been surfed only a few times, which gives it a bit of an untouched vibe. Unfortunately, the fishing camp that used to support surf activities was closed back in 2000. The closest camps are at Ozuri and Iguela, south of Ombouè.
The optimal swell direction for Olendé is from the SouthWest, but it can also pick up waves from the South and SouthWest. It handles swell sizes ranging from 1 foot (about 0.3 meters) and breaks over sand, making it a point break that offers left waves. For the best experience, you’ll want to check it out during low, mid, or high tide, with NorthEast winds being preferable. This spot is suited for intermediate surfers who are looking for a low-key session.
Getting to Olendé can be a bit tricky. You can either take a speed boat from Port-Gentil, which can be pretty expensive, or fly to Ombouè, the nearest main village. Just a heads up, local surfcasters are known to catch plenty of sharks and barracudas in the area, so keep that in mind when you're out in the water.
