Overview
Ombak Tidur is a long right-hand reef that walls up fast but sections heavily. It breaks over live coral and rewards surfers who can commit to a quick, racey wall.
When It Works
It draws swell from south through west (S-W), and a west swell is the best match. More west in the swell helps the wave stand up into fast, racey walls, with the occasional barrel section when it lines up. It is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast offshore wind to clean it up. It works on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers. Because it sections so readily, be ready for a long, arduous paddle back if you get caught straightening out on a set. When it is on, the right is a welcome change from the lefts.
