Just south of Les Mamelles lighthouse, Ouakam stands out as Senegal’s world class spot. The right off the defined peak is usually longer and ruler-edged, while the left is fast, crisp and steep with plenty of barrel possibilities either way. The island of exposed rocks and the tight take-off zone dictate this is an experts only wave. All tides but low to mid is usually better. Needs a big or long period NW to wrap in behind the cliff headland which affords great wind protection and usually keeps the line-up smooth.

The wave breaks only about 20-30 times a year, but when it does, just a few people can create crowd pressures on the tight take-off zone. In front of the country's biggest mosque and has a real African fishing village vibe.
