Outer Pool is a surf spot located at Cape St Blaize, near Mossel Bay. It’s known for its multi-peak setup and offers surfers a chance to catch some decent waves. The spot is situated north of the tidal pool, with access to both Outer Pool and Inner Pool from the same paddle-out point. It’s a favored choice among locals and visitors alike looking for consistent conditions and a bit of action on the water.
When it comes to riding waves, Outer Pool handles swell sizes starting at around 2ft (0.6m) and is best with a south-west swell direction. You can also catch waves from the east and south-west. The waves here break over a mix of uneven reef and sand, creating a point break that rolls mostly to the right. The best times to hit it are during low to mid-tide, especially at low tide when the waves can produce longer rides with some nice, hollow sections that expert surfers will really enjoy. With west winds blowing through, you can expect clean conditions, but be prepared for some drift as you ride down the point.
Besides the surfing, the area has other spots worth checking out, like Santos Reef and Ding Dangs if you’re up for a bit of exploration. Just remember that Outer Pool is more suited for experienced surfers due to its conditions, so keep that in mind when planning your session.
