Overview
Oxnard is a mile-long stretch of beachbreak that breaks over sand and peels both left and right. It's a fickle wave, but when the swell lines up it fires flawless A-frame peaks that tube along the beach. This is a punchy, good-quality break that turns on with the right combination of swells, though it can get rough after heavy rain.
When It Works
Oxnard draws swell from south-southeast through south to west-northwest (SSE-S-WNW), and it takes the right mix to switch on. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. The best stretch runs through autumn, winter, and spring, and you can find waves year-round, though it stays inconsistent between the windows that fire.
Wind and Tide
The workable wind window runs from north-northeast to east (NNE-E), with a northeast (NE) offshore holding it clean. It can break across low, mid, and high tide, but a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
Oxnard suits intermediate and expert surfers, and shortboards, fish, and bodyboards all work here. Expect a fairly quiet lineup with a somewhat reserved atmosphere.
