P-Pass surf guide

P-Pass, also known as Palikir Pass, is a renowned surf spot located on a remote island in the Western Pacific. Access is strictly by boat, and it’s important to know that the waves break either on the barrier reef or near a reef pass. When you get there, you’ll find that the inside is always shallow, which is something to keep in mind while you’re out on the water. The spot gets busy with surfers heading out as the forecast shows promise, drawn by the prospect of catching some quality waves.

The waves at P-Pass are quite the ride. During ideal conditions, you can enjoy user-friendly surf at around 2ft (0.6m), making it fun for many surfers. But be careful, as things can ramp up pretty quickly. When the swell size increases, expect late take-offs and fast down-the-line rides. The spot primarily delivers right-hand waves, and the best swell direction comes from straight North, while it can also handle swells from the West and Northeast. P-Pass works well with light Easterly winds, allowing the swell lines to wrap neatly around the reef. It can be surfed at any tide, though going out during a full low tide might send you careening toward shallow waters.

This spot is definitely geared towards expert surfers. While intermediates might find some fun, consistent headhigh sessions, pros will be on the lookout for rare, double-overhead days that can deliver incredible, hollow barrels. The location is about a 20-minute boat ride from Kolonia, making for a nice little adventure to get to the waves.
