More about Palos Verdes Cove - Middles/The Channel surfspot

The Cove’s premier break is Middles, long, slow rights and lefts favored by longboarders. Needs W swells, good with some N. Watch out for clean-up sets and rip currents when it’s big. Tends to close out at low tide, when the lefts get better. Boneyards is a juicy, rocky, shallow left on the south end of the cove. Gets hollow, works from mid-tide up.

Middles is where Doc Ball shot many of his classic Paddleboard Cove photos in the 1930s. The Cove is now a Marine Preserve protected from development; good bird-watching, plenty of sealife including dolphins and the kelp beds make for glassy sessions. Access is via a broad dirt path at Flat Rock Point.
