Pentewan surf guide

Pentewan is a small beach break located on the east coast, known for needing big south swells to really get going. It's not the most consistent spot, but when it works, it can provide some fun waves. The beach also has a car park nearby, and there's a camping/caravan park for those looking to stay longer. Access is pretty straightforward, and you can park at the leisure center in the campsite. Your parking ticket even gives you a discount at the café.

The surf here mainly works best with swells from the south, southwest, and east, and it typically handles swell sizes from about 0.6 meters (2 ft) to 1.8 meters (6 ft). When conditions are right, you’ll find both left and right-breaking waves, making it suitable for beginners and intermediates alike. It’s ideal when the tide is mid to high, especially with offshore winds coming from the northwest. Just keep in mind, it can get crowded, so watch out for those bailed boards if you’re out there.

Pentewan's sandy bottom makes for an easy paddle out, which is a plus, but during high tide, the waves can get a bit fat and there might be some backwash from the steep beach. It’s generally a fun spot during the winter months, from December to February, when the bigger storms roll in. Just be prepared for a few more faces in the water since this place can be a hotspot when the conditions are right.
