Petit Havre surf guide

Petit Havre is a surf spot located in the beautiful Caribbean region. It’s known for its left-breaking waves, which can attract a fair number of surfers, especially those coming from the capital. The spot offers a nice vibe with a small beach facing west, making it a decent choice for a surf session. However, it can get sketchy at dead low tide, so keep an eye on the water level.

The waves here work best with a southeast swell direction, but you can also catch some good rides with east and south swells. It generally handles swell sizes up to about 3 feet (1 meter). These waves break over uneven reef, producing some fun lefts that can deliver short barrels and long, slashable shoulders when the conditions are right. For the best experience, the ideal wind direction is from the north, and the spot is friendly for intermediate surfers, especially during low to mid tide.

While you’re out there, be cautious of the rough reef, as it can be a bit challenging. Additionally, urchins can be present, so it's a good idea to wear reef booties if you have them. For beginners looking for a safer option, Anse Vinaigri in Gosier is a better spot to start with. Overall, Petit Havre can offer some decent surf when the conditions align, just make sure to pay attention to the tides and the reef!
