Phingask is a surf spot located to the east of Sandhaven harbour, situated in the same bay as West Point. This spot can be a bit inconsistent and unpredictable, but it's worth checking out if you're in the area. The quality of the waves here really depends on how much sand is on the reef, which can change things up quite a bit. If you've got the right conditions, it can be a fun place to catch some waves.
The surf here works best with a north swell direction, but you can also catch waves with northwest and east swells. It handles swell sizes around 3ft (approximately 0.9 meters) pretty well. The waves break over uneven reef and sand, giving it a mix of wave types including reef breaks. You'll mostly find left-hand waves here, which can be great if you're a goofy footer. For the best surfing, you should aim for low to mid tide and keep an eye on the winds; south winds tend to be preferable.
When planning your visit, it's a good idea to park by the harbour. This spot can be hit or miss, so don't be discouraged if you don't find perfect waves every time. It’s all part of the adventure of surfing!
