Piedra del Lobo is a surf spot located along the coast between Antofagasta and Cabo Jara. It’s known for its reliable left-hand waves that can offer fun rides for surfers who know what they’re doing. The waves here can hold up to 9 feet (2.8 meters), making it an attractive spot for experienced surfers looking for a challenge. While some surfers find this place to be a classic, others see it as just another average spot in the area.
This spot works best with a southwest swell but can handle swells from the south and northwest as well. When the swell is around 4 feet (1.2 meters), you can expect good conditions. The waves break over an uneven reef and typically have a left direction. It’s good to know that low, mid, and high tides all work here, with east winds being preferable for clean conditions. Keep in mind, this spot is more suited for intermediate surfers, as heavy wipe-outs can happen despite the absence of dangerous rocks.
If you’re heading out, make sure to line up with the two purple poles as they’ll help you position yourself correctly. Enjoy your time at Piedra del Lobo, and make the most of the conditions it has to offer!
