More about Pinetrees surfspot
Pinetrees is a quality wave-magnet, favouring lefts on any small to medium swell. Recent development has changed the access and vibe, but it is still regularly crowded, despite the rough track and beach driving. There's more lefts and rights, depending on the direction of the N-S swell axis, down near the Honokohau marina to the south and rental-friendly parking.
General: A rocky, reefy stretch of beach that offers left and right peaks. Pinetrees will very rarely offer perfection, but it is a great beginner to intermediate spot. Tides: Medium tides Size: Chest-overhead Wind: Calm or offshore from an easterly direction (NE to E to SE). Mornings usually always see light wind and clean conditions, before an afternoon seabreeze develops. Swell: Anything from the S to NW Bottom: Reef Paddling: Fairly short paddle most days. Spot Rating: Can get good at chest-overhead with offshore wind, but usually average.
All levels -- Depends on size.
Easy. Paved road straight to it now, that goes around the Kohanaiki Golf and Ocean Club.
Year-round. Winter NW-WNW swells and summer S-SW swells. Most consistent in summer.
Crowd Factor: Few on weekdays, crowded on weekends and holidays Local Vibe: This is a popular local hang-out. Humility and respect expected.
The Old Kona Airport State Recreation Area has some high tide only peaks over barely covered coral.
Pristine.
Reef, rocks, urchins.
