Pipeline is located about 50km southwest from Cagliari, along the south coast of Sardegna, near the upscale town of Chia. This surf spot is popular due to its beautiful scenery and the fun waves that can be found here. While it's not the most consistent spot around, it does attract quite a crowd when the conditions are right.
This spot works best on strong west swells, creating long righthanders that break on the outside. When the waves are on, you can also find some hollow peaks forming up on the inside. Pipeline can handle swell sizes starting from about 2ft (0.6 meters) up to larger sizes, making it a decent choice for intermediate surfers. The waves break over sand, providing both left and right wave directions. For the best experience, head out during low to mid tide, and you’ll want to check for northwest winds, which are preferable for the conditions here. Sometimes, swells from the southwest and northwest can work well, too.
It’s worth noting that despite its beautiful setup, Pipeline doesn’t have the highest consistency, so it can be a bit hit or miss. When the waves are up, expect a busy lineup as many surfers flock to catch the fun rides. Whether you’re looking for mellow sessions or a bit of challenges, Pipeline can cater to your needs, just be ready to share the waves!
