The main wave at Pistons works best with southeast swells and can handle sizes starting from 1ft (0.3m) up to around 6ft (2m). This spot is known for its lefts when the east and south swells come through, especially when there's a good fetch. The wave breaks over an uneven reef and sand combination, providing a variety of surfing experiences. Morning offshores from the steep mountains help shape the waves, but it’s usually best suited for intermediate surfers. You can catch a good ride during low, mid, and even high tides, with north winds being preferable.
