More about Playa de los Caballos surfspot

General: This crescent shaped, cliff lined bay is home to one of Cantabria's best breaks, a big call in region that is one of the most wave-rich in the whole of the European coastline. The main break at Playa de Los Caballos is a finger of reef that angles out into the Bay of Biscay, the sudden change in depth channeling swell into a quality lefthander that feathers and fires into a barreling left that can reach over a hundred meters through to the inside. Once over six feet there is a lot of water moving around in the bay and the rips can affect the waves quality. A wave this good gets busy and weekends see the peak crowds but an early arrival pays dividends. Car crime has been a problem here in the past. Take the road to Playa de Cuchia and bear right. Tides: Low to mid Size: Knee high-slightly overhead Wind: S, SE Swell: NW, W Bottom: Reef and sand Paddling: Can be a workout when it's pumping...and you're trying to get under a cleanup set. Spot Rating: One of the best waves in the area.
