Playa Malibú is tucked away near the small oceanside community of Gorgona. This spot is a rivermouth break that generally picks up a bit more swell than other nearby locations, making it a popular choice for surfers. The beach features black sand and is surfable at all tides, which gives it a bit of versatility throughout the day.
The waves here can be pretty fun, especially when the Chame River and tidal action come together. You can expect fast, tubular waves, and it works well with swells coming from the South and Southwest. The ideal conditions are when the swell hits around 3 feet (about 0.9 meters). Both left and right waves break here, offering options for different riding styles. Beginners will find it manageable, especially during low, mid, and high tide, but watch out for the conditions and make sure to check the wind, which should ideally come from the Northwest.
Keep in mind that the underwater trees can be a hazard in the area, so it's good to stay aware. If you're planning to park, it's best to do so on the beach to avoid any issues with parking lot theft.
