Playalinda is a scenic surf spot located inside Canaveral National Seashore, right next to the Kennedy Space Center. It features a long stretch of beach that's pretty spacious, making it a nice place to catch some waves without feeling too cramped. The vibe here is pretty chill, and you can expect to find a mix of surfers enjoying the beach while taking in the unique surroundings.
This beachbreak can get decent waves, especially with the right swell. It’s best when the surf is coming from the North, but it can also work well with NorthEast and SouthEast swells. The spot handles swell sizes starting from about 2 feet (0.6 meters) and can create both left and right waves that are fun for beginners to ride. The waves break over sand, making it a more forgiving place for those just starting out. You’ll get the best results when the wind is coming from the SouthWest and during low, mid, or high tide.
Playalinda is pretty consistent, and it's rarely crowded due to the large beach area. Just be aware of some local wildlife like sharks and gators as well as the occasional nudist surfer. And if you look up, you might just catch a rocket launch from Kennedy Space Center, which adds an interesting twist to your surf day.
