More about Point Cartwright surfspot

Point Cartwright’s scenic headland provides S wind shelter for a challenging right point, which shuts down on the eastern breakwall of the Mooloolaba Inlet. Thick walls arch and throw a barrel section on take-off, then it races down the line to the terminal shelf. Further out there’s an even heavier right platform for hellmen only. All tides and winds from SE-W should be ok with any E swell up to 12ft (4m), when it can start breaking past the rivermouth. Inside the usually flat bay on the other side of the river can see some awesome close-out barrels on a big NE swell S wind combo, otherwise it's a good learning area up to Mooloolaba Beach.

Confident intermediates might get a few off the frothing pack as this is the best wave in the area. The beach and Point Cartwright are netted so no shark attacks since 1959, but this is a rivermouth, which also means keep an eye out for boats if crossing from town. Drive to La Balsa Park or walk in from Kawana Pocket side.
