Pointe des Trois-Bassins surf guide

Pointe des Trois-Bassins is a popular surf spot located in the western part of the island. It attracts a lot of surfers, especially when other spots are flat. The area is known for having waves that can be appealing in varying conditions. It features different breaks that serve both beginners and more experienced surfers, making it a versatile place to catch some waves.

The surf at Pointe des Trois-Bassins is primarily influenced by swells coming from the southwest and southeast, but it can also handle north swells. Wave sizes can work well at around 2 feet (0.6 meters) and break over an uneven reef, creating different types of waves, including both lefts and rights. La Barriere tends to be a fast and shallow right with an odd left, while The Peak, near the river’s mouth, offers a nice A-frame that’s accessible to most surfers. South of the cut, you’ll find a heavier left wall that connects nicely on due south swells. It’s worth noting that the best conditions usually come with a northeast wind and can be surfed at all tide heights—low, mid, or high.

This spot is pretty friendly for beginners, so if you're just starting out, you can find a wave that suits your level. Just be mindful of the crowd, especially since this spot can get busy. It's a good idea to check the conditions before you head out to make the most of your session.
