Overview
Pointe Venus is an exposed, hammerhead-reef right that follows the mold of Tahiti's rights: shallow, sketchy, and quick to throw fast tubes over live coral. Negotiating those rapid sections takes real skill, so this one sits firmly in expert territory.
When It Works
It needs a small to moderate northeast swell to fire. The reef draws swell from northwest to northeast (NW-NE), with northeast (NE) the best match, and it works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Push past that and it gets out of control in bigger swells. Consistency is a bit hit-or-miss, so it pays to time your window.
Wind and Tide
Look for south (S) offshore winds to groom it. The reef can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a wave for experts only, given the shallow coral and fast, rapid-fire tubes. The lineup tends to stay fairly quiet when it's on. If Venus isn't cooperating, there's more on offer further east at PK 15 and Rocky Point, plus the easier beachbreaks west of Papenoo.
