More about Polihale surfspot

General: Along Polihale Beach there are numerous beachbreak setups to enjoy in both summer and winter. Unlike nearby Mana, Polihale picks up more swell from the North than the South Pacific, though a good S swell will wrap in just fine. Combo swells will yield the best surf, distributing fun peaks up and down the beach. Because Polihale is so sweeping and predominantly sand, watch out for shifty surf and strong currents during larger swell events. Tides: Low to medium Size: Chest high-2X overhead, but can hold even larger. Wind: Calm or offshore easterly trade winds, which these trades prevail most of the year. Prefrontal SE to S wind is offshore too. Swell: Combos; N-NW and S-SW Bottom: Mostly sand with some reef sections here and there. Paddling: Can range from short/easy paddles when its small, and long/tiring paddles when big and consistent. Spot Rating: Can offer fun waves year-round, best on combo swells, minimal crowd, and clean most days of the year.

All levels -- Depends on size of course.

Easy. Enter the beach anywhere off the road that runs through Polihale State Park. Find a good peak and paddle out.

Year-round. Strongest and most consistent in winter with WNW to N swells, but can pull in wrapping SSW-SW swells as well. Combos are super fun.

Crowd Factor: Usually minimal Local Vibe: None to very mellow. Be cool and keep it that way.

Pristine most of the time. Farmland runoff does occur during significant rains.

Currents, sharks, closeouts on the head when its very consistent.
