Pollan Bay surf guide

Pollan Bay is a surf spot located near Malin Head, Ireland’s most northerly point. This beach break features gentle waves that can cater to surfers of all levels, especially beginners. The spot generally works best with incoming tide and has a good view of the surrounding area, making it quite a laid-back spot to spend the day in the water.

The waves here work well with swells coming from the north, west, or northwest. It's decent for swell sizes around 2 feet (about 0.6 meters) and the break happens over sand, which is pretty friendly for wipeouts. You can catch left and right waves, giving some variety for surfers. The best wind direction is from the southeast, and it handles a range of tide heights, making it quite accessible no matter when you choose to surf.

Keep in mind, Pollan Bay can get a bit crowded, especially in the summer as surfers from nearby Derry flock to the waves. So if you’re looking for some quieter sessions, consider hitting it early or later in the day. It’s a good spot to practice your skills and enjoy the beautiful scenery around.
