Ponta do Sino is a surf spot that offers a mix of sand and uneven reef, making it a unique place to catch some waves. It generally produces waves that are bigger than nearby Santa Maria, but it can get blown out at times. The swells can wrap around the island, breaking parallel to the sand, which allows for longer rides and an easy walk back up the beach.
The spot works best with swells coming from the SouthWest or Northeast and can handle sizes from about 1 ft (0.3 m) upwards. You can catch both left and right waves here, which is great for different surfing styles. It’s recommended to surf during low, mid, or high tides, with the optimal wind coming from the North. This place is more suitable for intermediate surfers who want to improve their skills.
Ponta do Sino is known for its consistency since it works throughout the year, no matter the swell. Be aware that there can sometimes be currents sweeping around the point, so it's good to keep an eye on the conditions before heading out.
