Overview
Ponta Garca is a stretch of rocky beaches tucked below cliffs just east of the town it takes its name from. The waves here are peaky beach-style lefts and rights breaking over a mix of uneven reef and sand, and the surf is usually mellow and unchallenging.
When It Works
The spot works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft and draws swell from west through north to northeast (W-N-NE), but peaky south (S) windswells are the best match. It breaks consistently, even when northeast swell wraps around into the beaches.
Wind and Tide
Look for north (N) offshore wind. The waves break through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a good place for learners, as long as they aren't afraid of a few rocks. It's also a solo surfing spot, so don't count on company in the lineup.
Access
Drive to the end of the road after Ponta Garca and turn right. There's free roadside parking once you get there.
