More about Ponte Vedra surfspot

This low tide break needs a good 6-10ft swell to break on the outside coquina shelf. Requires some swell angle to be any good, so a S hurricane or a winter N/NE are ideal. Low tide incoming or outgoing can produce good peaks and fast walls. Occasionally will form a surfable high tide shorebreak along the miles of coast south of Jacksonville Beach. Always affected by shifting sandbars.

General: Ponte Vedra is a very secluded 10-mile stretch of coast just south of Jax Beach. Mostly shorebreaks, this area works best on a S swell with high tide. There are a few places to surf, beginning with Crossroads to the south. The break shifts every few years from an outside, low-tide break to an inside, high-tide break, depending on the frequency of storms and the severity of northeasters and hurricanes. The local consensus is that Crossroads is usually slightly bigger than most other spots in P.V., but not necessarily better. Tides: Low Size: Waist-2x overhead Wind: W Swell: NE-SE Bottom: Sand Paddling: Not too bad but can be challenging when the surf is bigger. Spot Rating: Decent spots at times, can get crowded. One of the go to spots in Ponte Vedra.

Park and walk.

Fall-Spring, Hurricane

Crowd Factor: Can get crowded but also plenty of room to spread out. Local Vibe: Low key.

Average consistency so it’s only sometimes crowded. The large parking lot is a favorite for thieves, who obviously don’t come from the surrounding affluent area. Other problems include jetskis and estuary runout, which in turn attracts more than the usual amount of sharks.

Looks murky but some of this are natural tannins that come out of local rivers.

Sharks, jellyfish.
