A slew of reef and beachbreaks keep the local surfers happy around Port Kembla with the left reef at the northern end serving up solid lefts that are sheltered from the NE sea breezes. There's plenty of pitching peaks running down the beach southwards, spreading the regular crowds. Over Hill 60 are a number of heavy, localised waves along MM Beach including Bay and the fearsome Outer break, or Ollies sucky jetty rights in front of the steelworks.
Military reserve and a sewage works add to the danger of some of the reefs around here.
