Port St-François is a sloppy beach and reef break that peels rolling right-hand walls suited to all abilities. It breaks over a mix of uneven reef and sand, so expect shallow water with urchins underfoot. Both lefts and rights come through, though the rights are the real draw.
When It Works
The break picks up swell from east to south (E-S) and lines up best on a southeast (SE) swell. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and it breaks consistently, so you can usually count on it when the swell is in.
Wind and Tide
Look for north (N) offshore wind to clean it up. It comes in on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The gentle right walls make this a friendly option for beginners. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on, and note that the south shore pulls crowds from the city whenever it's working, getting packed with groms during school holidays.
