Port St-Francois surf guide

Port St-François is a surf spot located on the southern shore that attracts surfers looking for some fun in the waves. This area tends to get busy, especially on weekends and during school breaks when groms flood the lineup. It’s a mix of beach and reef breaks, giving surfers some variety, but it can be inconsistent, so you might not always find the best surf here.

The surf here generally works best with southeast swell, but you can catch waves from east and south swells as well. It tends to handle swell sizes up to about 3 feet (0.9 meters). You’ll find both left and right waves, which can roll out in a pretty sloppy fashion. The bottom is uneven and is a mix of reef and sand, and it’s also shallow and can be covered in urchins, so watch your step. Mid to high tide offers the best conditions for surfers of all levels, but beginners will find it manageable most of the time if the swell isn’t too big. Preferred wind direction is from the north, which helps clean up the waves a bit.

When you're out there, keep in mind that it gets crowded, so be respectful and take your turns. The vibe can vary, especially with a mix of abilities in the water. If you’re just starting out or looking for a casual session, check it out during off-peak times for a more relaxed experience.
