Portete is a surf spot located just on the other side of Suspiro. It's known for its powerful righthander, which can handle swells coming from the south and northwest. However, unlike some other nearby spots, Portete doesn't offer much wind protection, so it can get blown out pretty quickly, especially when the winds pick up. The area features a rivermouth and some beachbreak peaks to the south.
At Portete, the waves generally break over uneven reef and sand. The optimal swell direction for the best waves is from the northwest, and it works well with swell sizes around 3ft (about 1 meter). The waves here can be punchy and fun, but you'll want to be an expert to navigate them effectively. The best conditions are typically found during mid to high tide, with southeast winds being the most favorable.
While surfing Portete, it's important to be cautious at low tide, as the spot can be pretty dangerous. Keep in mind that the area has seen some development with a massive resort nearby, which might change the vibe a bit compared to what it used to be.
