Portofino surf guide

Portofino is a small village situated right by the motorway, nestled in the middle of the desert. It's known for one of the best right-hand waves in the Northern Region. The surf is pretty consistent here, making it a popular spot for surfers seeking reliable conditions. The wave breaks fairly close to shore, which allows for some exciting rides, but be mindful of the rocky bottom covered with urchins.

The surf at Portofino really shines with swells coming from the Northwest, West, and West-Northwest. It handles swell sizes from about 3 feet (1 meter) to 6 feet (2 meters), which is perfect for intermediate surfers. The best time to catch the wave is during low to mid-tide, and the ideal wind direction is generally east to southeast. The wave offers powerful rides with some fun sections for tubing and ramps for airs when it's pumping. You'll be riding right-handed waves that break over both sand and rock, giving you varied surf experiences.

Access is straightforward since you can park right in front of the wave, and you'll likely find plenty of space in the water, as crowds are minimal. The local vibe is friendly and welcoming, making it a chill spot to hang out. If you’re into shortboarding, this place can be a lot of fun during the surf season, which runs from February to October.
