More about Portsea Back Beach surfspot

The large expanse of Portsea’s Back Beach has variable banks that get pounded out of shape by big swells then reform between storms, offering some zippy corners, reforms and shories. It's a long stretch, but none of the banks compare to nearby Spooks for heaviness, where a solid, pitching right loves to double-up and eat the unwary, in front of the London Bridge rock formation. SW swell, NE wind and most tides.

Expensive summer parking charges. Said to be the area where Aussie Prime Minister Harold Holt disappeared in 1967, presumed drowned or taken by a shark.
