Praia da Vitoria is a popular surf spot located inside the harbor. It's known for its assorted reef waves that are easily accessible from the beach. This area features breaks on both the left and right sides of an exposed rock, making it a versatile spot for various surfers. Being one of the busiest spots on the island, it's a great place to catch some waves while enjoying the lively atmosphere.
The surf here can be fun, especially with the lefts breaking off the sometimes-ideal point known as Chines. This left tends to be perfect for hotdogging in smaller north swells, especially at high tide. The primary left called Vietnam offers a wider break and presents fun, rippable walls along with a few cover-up sections. Mid tide provides the best conditions with larger northwest, north, and northeast swells, while the winds from the west are preferable. The spot can handle swells as small as 2ft (around 0.6 meters) and offers good rides for beginners, with the waves breaking over uneven reef. You'll find both left and right waves to choose from, so there's something for everyone.
When you're heading there, parking is available in the lot right in front of the break or down at the southern beach near the port. The reef here is manageable, with minimal currents, making it suitable for beginners who want to learn without the worry of sharp or shallow spots. On top of that, the shifting take-off zones can help spread the crowd, giving you a better chance to catch some waves.
