More about Punta Chivo surfspot

Punta Chivo is easy to get to through a small fishing village then a walk out to the point. It’s a fun, tapered wall off the large sentinel rock and can have the odd hollow section. Great wave for longboarders or improvers and beginners can sit further inside. NE-E blows it out, but any W wind and S swell is fine.

General: As sure as the sun setting in the west, any traveling surfer visiting Salina Cruz will make at least one stop at Chivo. The blue-collar cousin of the more famous and photographed points in the region, Chivo is nothing if not dependable. From two foot to ten foot, this sandbottom right point always seems to be working. So, if the more fickle waves in the area aren’t doing their thing, give Chivo a crack. With its race-y walls and occasionally great tube section, this spot can offer exceptional rides for those who pick the right wave. Tides: Low to mid Size: Waist high to overhead Wind: S, W Swell: SSE, S, SSW Bottom: Sand bottom Paddling: Most surfers just get out and walk around Spot Rating: When the sand is right, Chivo is a really good wave
