More about Punta del Hidalgo surfspot
General: This rolling, walling A-frame breaks over boulders and sand on the edge of Playa de Arenal. A pretty user friendly and consistent spot, the rights are long and rippable, winding towards the beach. The lefts peel into a channel and, on the northern side, there is another break – a right known as El Roquete. Tricky parking. Tides: Works on all tides. Size: Waist to overhead high. Wind: SE, E, NE Swell: N, NW, W Bottom: Sand and boulders. Paddling: Big channels, easy paddle round, but can break a long way out. Spot Rating: Fun, rippable walls with long rights and shorter lefts that can easily get overhead breaking over boulders and sand.
Not quite beginner friendly due to rocks and power, fun for more experienced surfers.
Parking is tricky here due to cliffs. Short walk along beach from the village.
Best October - March
Crowd Factor: Can get crowded with local crew, tourists and surfers from nearby Santa Cruz. Local Vibe: OK, competitive but pretty chilled.
