Punta Miramar surf guide

Punta Miramar is a surf spot located just south of the power plant at Puerto Sandino. The area is known for having a mix of surf options, including pointbreaks, reefbreaks, jetty breaks, and beachbreaks. Access is easy with paved roads leading straight to the coast, making it a convenient spot for both local and visiting surfers. The environment tends to stay clean, which is a plus for anyone looking to catch some waves.

When it comes to the waves, Punta Miramar primarily offers good lefts, especially at Miramar Point. This left point break breaks over uneven reef and can handle swells from about 4 to 10 feet (1.2 to 3 meters). The best swell direction is south, but it can also work with southwest swells. Miramar Point has three main takeoff spots, especially during bigger swells. The outside section is known for its fast, heavy hollow rides when it’s working right. For those looking for good conditions, mid to high tides are optimal, though too high can create backwash issues. Winds from the northeast are preferred for clean surf.

The area around Miramar has multiple options for surfers, catering to various abilities. While Miramar Point is more suited for intermediates due to its speed and shallow rocks, you can also find spots like Pipes, which offers fun rights and a fast left over reef. Shacks is another notable wave that gets very fast and hollow but requires some skill to ride. The crowds are usually mellow, and most surfers are just passing through. The prime surf season runs from April to September, with solid swells rolling in all summer long.
