Punta Paloma is a well-known surf spot located along the coast near Tarifa. It offers a unique environment for surfers, featuring a long, peeling right-hand point break that stands out, especially when conditions at other spots are not ideal. To get there, you take the N-340 towards Tarifa, turn off at the signs for Punta Paloma, and park in the pine forest near the military base. It's about a 10-minute walk through the trees to reach the point.
The surf here works best with a west swell and can handle sizes around 3 feet (about 1 meter). Waves often break over uneven reef and sand, producing solid right point waves that can offer performance walls and the occasional cover-up, particularly at low tide. It’s suitable for intermediate surfers, so if you’re still working on your skills, this can be a great spot to progress. The best wind direction is northeast, and it also works during mid and low tide.
One of the cool things about Punta Paloma is that when it's firing, there are always other spots nearby that can work too, so you don’t usually have to worry too much about crowds. Just pack your gear and enjoy the scenic walk through the pine trees to get to the point.
