Queenscliff surf guide

Queenscliff is a popular surf spot located at the north end where a rivermouth contributes to some decent sandbanks. It tends to get pretty crowded, especially with the locals from the Queenscliff Boardriders Club (QBC) who have made their mark on the competitive surfing scene. While you can find some fun waves here, be prepared for some competition in the lineup.

The surf at Queenscliff is best when the swell comes from the Northeast, but it can also handle swells from the South. This spot works well with swell sizes starting at about 1 meter (3ft) and can continue to be rideable even when it gets bigger. The waves break over sand, providing a beach break that offers both left and right-hand waves. The best time to surf here is during low to mid to high tide, and the preferred wind direction is from the Northwest. It's an intermediate-friendly spot, so if you're looking to improve your skills, it's a good place to get in some practice.

Queenscliff can also surprise you with its waves, especially at the Queenscliff Bombie, which can produce hefty peaks in swells of over 3 meters (10ft). This spot is definitely for those who are confident in their abilities, as it can challenge even seasoned surfers. Just be aware of the crowd and have fun out there!
