Quintana surf guide

Surf: With a large E swell, action shifts to Quintana, an otherwise mushy break that finds power at size. Environment: Nasty industrial backdrop which keeps the crowds down. Surf: General: Across the jetties from Surfside is Quintana. Usually serves up mushy waves but can occasionally provide some punchy surf on strong South-East or East swells. Tides: Medium Size: Waist to head high Wind: N, NW; W with swell Swell: S, SE, E Bottom: Sand. Paddling: Can be a long paddle on the big days. Spot Rating: Has its rare days, but usually a mush burger. Access: Easy, but drive around from Surfside takes some time. Crowds: Crowd Factor: Usually empty except for select swells. Local Vibe: Positive. Environment: Can get pretty dirty. Flanked by the Freeport harbor, home of several chemical plants, and the Brazos River delta. Hazards: Currents by the jetty. Season: Fall; winter to mid-spring
