Racing Lefts surf guide

Racing Lefts is located just down the reef from Sidewalk's rocky point. It’s a spot that surfers look to when the conditions are right, with plenty of sections that offer lefts. The reef is fairly straight, but you should keep in mind that some waves can close out. However, if you play it smart and don’t paddle back out, you could ride a different section each wave, giving you the chance to travel up to 1km when the swell is pumping. It's definitely a spot to check out if you're in the area.

The optimal swell direction for Racing Lefts is from the Northeast, with good waves coming in from both the North and East. You’ll find that it handles swell sizes starting at around 2ft (0.6m) and can produce some decent left-hand waves, especially when the wind is blowing from the South. The reef break here offers consistent action, and it’s suitable for intermediate surfers looking to gain some experience without the extra challenges of big waves or strong currents. Tides play a role too; you'll have the best luck during low, mid, or high tides.

While the spot can often be blown out and has some current sweeping down the reef, it still offers a fun surf experience when conditions align. Make sure to check the wind and swell forecasts before heading out to maximize your time in the water. Surfing at Racing Lefts can provide a solid session, especially on good days with the right wind and swell.
