Ranch surf guide

The Ranch is a chill surf spot located by a reef across a wide, cliff-fringed bay. It's got two main passes and offers four different waves for surfers to enjoy. If you head to the north side, there's a decent left that works well when the swell is small and easterly. The main break is just across the pass, featuring a long, heavy right that barrels over the shallow reef. Depending on the conditions, you can catch rides that stretch up to 100 yards. On the south side of the peak, there's another left that kicks in when there’s more north in the swell, especially when the right starts to close out in spots.

The surf here can handle swell sizes from about 1.2 meters (4 ft) to 4.6 meters (15 ft). Tides can vary, but low to mid tides are usually preferred. The waves break over a reef, delivering some fun rides that cater to intermediate and expert surfers. When the winds come from the west or northwest, it typically creates a nice environment for catching waves. However, paddling can be pretty easy overall, yet it might get tricky with hurricane swells, so be prepared for that. Crowds are generally low key, making it a good spot to enjoy the surf without feeling overwhelmed.

The water here is nice and warm, typical of the Caribbean vibe. The best season for surfing at Ranch is from November to March and again in August to September. Just keep an eye out for the reef while you're out there; it can be a hazard, so stay alert. Overall, it's a solid big wave spot that’s best suited for advanced surfers.
