Redington Breakwater surf guide

Redington Breakwater is a spot known for its unique setup with a jetty running parallel to the shore. This location offers a mix of waves, breaking off the north end during a north swell and hitting the south end with a south swell. Generally, the south side delivers better conditions. It's a good option for locals who might not want to travel far, though it's worth noting that it has seen better days.

The waves here usually range from 2 to 4 feet (about 0.6 to 1.2 meters), with a sandy bottom making it comfortable for most surfers. On a bigger north swell, you'll find some nice right-handers forming at the south end, which can almost feel like a point break. The best swell directions include North, NorthWest, and South, with optimal wind coming from the North, NorthEast, and East directions. The tides work best at low to mid, making the paddling pretty easy on most days but a bit tricky when conditions get larger and wind-driven.

Access to the beach requires paying for parking, so make sure you're prepared for that. Crowds are generally minor, which is a plus, and the local vibe is pretty chill—just what you want for a fun surf day. Besides the odd red tide outbreak, the water tends to be clean. If you're in the area and find the surf is not firing elsewhere, Redington Breakwater is worth a look, especially in the fall through spring when conditions can be more reliable.
