Ribeira Quente Left surf guide

Ribeira Quente Left is a surf spot located by a large jetty construction. It's known for its heavy lefts that peel down the side of the jetty. The wave tends to hit harder at the end of the sea defenses and offers longer rides when the swell is bigger, finishing in the beachbreak. This spot is generally best on high tide and works well with southern hemisphere swells coming from the south, southeast, or wrapping in from the east-northeast.

The wave at Ribeira Quente Left handles swell sizes starting at around 3 feet (0.9 meters) and can accommodate various swell directions, including northeast and west. The break happens over uneven reef, so it's not the easiest wave out there. It's suitable for intermediate surfers who are comfortable with the stronger surf conditions. When the wind is coming from the north, it's usually the best time to paddle out here, giving you a chance for some decent rides regardless of the tide height, whether it's low, mid, or high.

Access to the spot is pretty good, with a restaurant nearby and camping options available in Furnas, which is a nice touch for surfers wanting to spend more time in the water. The environment is unique too, as there's a thermal spring that runs into the sea, giving it the catchy name "Hot River." It breaks right by the big car park and helipad, making it easy to find.
