Hilo’s strong wave-riding community remain cool at spots like Richardson’s, where the mellow reefbreaks provide a good learning forum. Scattered peaks over black sand and rock in any N swell and hopefully S winds, but it is often surfed when it is light side/onshore.
Highly consistent, which brings out the crowd. Occasional right off the eastern point in bigger NE swells and there are some fast, rocky rights in the next bay between Carlsmith and Kealoha Beach Parks.
