Right Point surf guide

Located about 10 miles south of Osbourne Head, Right Point is a right point break that stretches roughly a mile. The bottom is rocky with cobblestones, making it a unique spot compared to other beaches. On a big day, there are three distinct sections that can connect, offering a ride that's longer than what you might find at California's Rincon. It’s a spot worth checking out, especially when conditions align.

This wave can hold its own with swell sizes ranging from 1 to 6 feet (0.3 to 1.8 meters). It works best with swells coming from the South (S), Southeast (SE), and other southern angles. The ideal wind comes from the West-Southwest (WSW) to Northwest (NW), and mid tide is the sweet spot for getting the best waves. You’ll find that the waves are mostly right-breaking, making it more suitable for intermediate surfers looking to refine their skills on a shortboard.

Access to Right Point is pretty straightforward, which makes it accessible for surfers. Be aware that it can get crowded since it’s a popular spot, so you might have to deal with some competition for waves. The local vibe can be a bit unfriendly towards newcomers, so it's good to keep that in mind. The water can be cold during the winter, so bring a suitable wetsuit if you’re planning to surf during that time. This spot tends to be storm-dependent, with the best action happening during autumn and winter, especially with tropical cyclones in late summer to fall and frontal systems into spring.
