Rockpile/Heisler Park surf guide

Rockpile, also known as Heisler Park, is a surf spot located in Laguna Beach. It's known for its rocky reef setup and is best suited for those who are a bit more experienced in the water. The area can get crowded, and the vibe is sometimes not the friendliest, so it's good to be respectful if you decide to paddle out here. Access to the beach is available through paid lots in the park or metered parking along the nearby streets.

This spot works best with bigger southwest swells, drawing in waves that can handle sizes around 4ft (1.2m). The waves typically break over boulders, delivering right-handed rides for surfers. The optimal swell direction comes from the southwest, but waves can also be found with south and west swells. For the best conditions, a high tide is preferable, and northeast winds are ideal to keep the waves clean. It's a spot that can challenge intermediate surfers, so be ready to put your skills to the test.

Keep in mind that while Rockpile can produce some fun surf, the rocky bottom and inconsistency can make it a bit hazardous. Make sure to watch the locals and get a feel for the crowd before you jump into the lineup. It’s always a good idea to respect the spot and the surfers around you.
