More about San Onofre State Beach surfspot
Famous, mushy longboard wave. Seedbed of California beach culture and site of some of California’s earliest surfing contests and events. A great place for beginners; a family beach with mellow vibes. Old Man’s is the premier cobblestone reef peak at San Onofre, a summertime spot best with lower tides. The Point is just north, predominantly a righthander with occasionally good lefts.
Park entrance is accessible from Basilone Road. In summer and at weekends there are line-ups for parking right from first light, and the surf is just as busy. If you intend to visit often, ask about a yearly pass, good for both San Onofre and Trails.
