San Simeon surf guide

San Simeon is a surf spot located along the Central Coast of California, easily accessible via Highway 1. It’s known for its beautiful scenery and has a mix of beach and reef breaks. The area is generally quiet, with a blend of tourists and local surfers. When you arrive, you can park in a small cul-de-sac at the end of Pico Avenue and make your way down the staircase to the sand. Just keep in mind that the spot can be hit or miss, and many surfers find it to be just okay.

The surf here can handle swells from the South, South-West, West, and West-North-West, with sizes ranging from about 4 to 8 feet (1.2 to 2.4 meters). You’ll find beach breaks and some reef action, with waves that break both right and left. The best conditions usually happen during lower to mid tides. For wind, it’s best when it comes from the North-East, East-North-East, East, or East-South-East. If you're an intermediate surfer, you’ll probably find some fun waves here, especially during the summer, autumn, and winter months.

The local vibe is pretty chill, but it's good to be polite and respectful in the water. There are some local creatures to watch out for, like the elephant seals, and the presence of white sharks in the area adds a layer of caution. The surf environment is mostly clean, but always be mindful of the wildlife. The crowd factor is medium, so you might have to share the waves with others, but it’s usually manageable.
