Sandsend Bay - Beach is a solid surf destination located along the coast, known for its punchy, hollow beachbreaks. The beach can get busy, especially when there are good swells rolling in. It picks up more northern swell than its nearby spot, Scarborough, making it popular during those times. The sandy beach and shifting gravel bars create different setups that can keep things interesting for surfers.
When it comes to the waves, Sandsend Bay works best with a north swell and can also take on southeast swells. It handles swell sizes starting from around 2ft (0.6m) up to bigger days, so there's usually something fun to ride. The waves break both left and right, offering options for surfers of different abilities. A southwest wind is preferred here, and the spot works well on low, mid, and high tides, allowing for some versatility depending on the day.
Parking is available along the roadside beside the beach, and there's a pay car park at the north end, so you can easily find a spot before heading out to surf. Just make sure to check the conditions and head down when the surf's looking good!
