Overview
Sandy Lane is a short, near-perfect left that breaks mid-way down the island. It peels over an uneven, sharp, shallow reef, and when it turns on the wave has genuine quality.
When It Works
It draws swell from north to northeast, with a north swell the best match. The break is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Consistency is the catch here: it can be somewhat inconsistent, swinging between firing and flat, so it rewards patience and good timing.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east offshore wind to clean it up. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-level wave, and the sharp, shallow reef underneath is the reason why. When it finally breaks, the lineup gets busy as locals make the most of the rare window, and backwash airs are a favourite move.
